Get Your Garden Ready For Spring

Spring is here, which means it’s time to get digging and planting! Having a nice clean garden is not only a fun activity, but can seriously improve your curb appeal whether you’re planning to sell or enjoy your home for the spring and summer months. Here are a few tips to get your garden ready for spring.

1. Take an assessment of your garden

Do a check to see how your garden did during the winter. If it was a difficult winter like we have in Ontario, you may have to do some damage control. This could mean replacing perennials, garden dividers or fixing your fence line.

2. Trim your hedges, shrubs and trees

With heavy winds, your trees and hedges may look a bit messy. Take the time to trim or remove any damaged pieces for a more clean look, and also to be safe!

3. Rake and remove

Under all of that snow is most likely a big pile of leaves. Rake up the leaves and branches, and remove any weeds that may have grown throughout the winter.

4. Refresh your soil

A new bed of soil can make your garden look fresh and revitalized!

5. Clean out your pots

Unless you stored them for the winter, your pots are probably looking pretty dirty. Before replanting, give your pots a good power wash to not only look good, but to keep your plants healthy.

6. Start growing your seeds indoors

If it is still cold out, try starting to grow your seeds indoors to then be planted outside when it warms up. This will give you a great head start!

7. Plan out your garden

This is definitely the most exciting task. Take into account what worked last year and incorporate it into this year's design. Take a look on pinterest, or even gardens you like to visit. Get creative!

8. Spring clean and enjoy!

Why have an amazing garden if the area around it is dirty? Take some time to clean up the backyard or your front porch by pressure washing surfaces, adding decor, and brightening the space.
